Climate-Resilient Water Sector in Grenada (G-CREWS): FP059
Project Outline
This project seeks to comprehensively mainstream and implement climate resilience throughout Grenada's entire national water sector. The project addresses two main climate risks and vulnerabilities in Grenada: freshwater availability and disaster preparedness. Other Caribbean communities share these vulnerabilities, rendering this project a model for regional application. The project supports comprehensive transformation of the water sector on multiple levels, including citizens and businesses as water users, the public sector as provider of potable water and infrastructure, and behavioral changes triggered through appropriate governance, regulation, economic incentives and raising awareness, to promote a nationwide 'paradigm shift' for Grenada's overall resilience.

Project Description

- Establishment of Water Resource Management Unit (WRMU) and mainstreaming climate resilience in policies/tariff systems.
- Challenge Fund for climate resilient commercial water users.
- Enhancement of water storage/supply system (rehabilitation of wells, construction of rainwater harvesting system, etc.) at National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA).

Expected total number of direct and indirect beneficiaries, disaggregated by gender (reduced vulnerability or increased resilience):
- Direct beneficiaries: 45,000 persons (46.41% of total beneficiaries will be female)
- Indirect beneficiaries: 107,317 persons (42% of the total population)
